Rumah Totok is highly regarded among the locals in Jakarta and unlike their more modern counterparts, they are not located within five star hotels or exclusive malls, however, they are found in densely populated suburbs such as Cibubur, Serpong, or Depok. Their famous treatments are the acupressure massages and rapid weight-loss programs for those who want to shed kilos and excess skin instantly.

The weight-loss treatment starts off with you, even though unwillingly, stepping on a scale and the therapists taking a full body measurement. Then an application of their homemade cream is spread all over your body. The texture of the cream is very heavy and almost feels like applying clarified butter such as Ghee. They apply a good amount of pressure on your whole body and massage it thoroughly as they believe this breaks down the fats within the body. Once this part is over, you are taken to a portable sauna to sweat out all the toxins and any retained water out of your body, and you will sit here for a good 20 minutes. When the time is up, you will feel slightly faint, however, you will be attended to immediately as you will be dried off and taken to be weighed and measured again. And depending on how overweight you are, it is guaranteed that you will see very slight results of loosing inches and at least half a kilo.

The treatments at Rumah Totok are not cheap per se, and you will spend around Rp. 500,000 on your first visit as they provide not only the treatment but also the after care such as their special water, herbal pills and supplementary nutritional shakes to encourage you to loose at least 6 kilos per month after regular visits.

Do not be surprised by some of their venues as well, as the one we visited, which is located the fifth floor in Blok M Plaza is crammed, dark, uncomfortable and not like you would expect in a typical spa. Nevertheless Rumah Totok is visited by numerous local and international clients daily in all of their locations.
