When you feel like a good late night meal, one of the few places that people head off to is definitely Kota, Gajah mada. Generally people who flock there late at night have already made up their minds on which local favorite places they want to eat in and most definitely it’s the very unassuming, humble and fast serving dishes that does the trick. Sate Domba Afrika would be one of those sought after places which is located on the street side by the main road of Gajah Mada. As the name of the place suggests, their specialty is sheep sate cooked African style. This establishment is very famous as they familiarized the Jakartans with Sheep meat which is a rare find.
The sheep’s meat (with almost every internal bits of the sheep mixed together) is not skewered like any other sate, but rather it is grilled on top of a charcoal with delicious fresh onions and of course their secret spices. The whole preparation takes over 2 hours and the meat has to be steamed for over an hour in order to achieve the tender meat. You can tell that this meat has very low fat but be warn, some might find this meat a bit too dry. Nevertheless the sate is super tender, tasty and delightful to taste. The presentation and taste of the food can be described as chunky kebab fillings served in a plate.
If you would like to try sheep in another form other than sate, order their Sheep curry which is basically a sheep soup in rich fragrant curry broth or the Sop Kuah Bening Domba which reminds us a lot of Sop buntut. Both are equally delicious and should be enjoyed with steaming bowl of white rice. If you are feeling less adventurous to try sheep you can go for the the Keong Afrika which is the only non-sheep main course you will find.
Looking around it seems that people are also attracted to this place because of their Sate Pisang which is skewered big chunky whole banana grilled with some sugar and generously topped with shaved cheddar cheese that are slowly melting on top of the warm banana. Marvelous!

pertama kali diajak temen untuk cobain sate domba afrika ini agak2 "ngeri" denger nama makanannya.. tapi setelah dicoba... hmmm, yummy... rasanya enak, dagingnya lembut, gak berlemak, plus bawang bombay yang renyah.. dimakan dengan pisang goreng plus cocolannya pakai mayonaise + kecap manis + sedikit sambal... pas untuk menu cemil2 kalau lapar tengah malam.. lebih enak dimakan dengan pisang goreng ketimbang dengan nasi putih... you have to try it..
Buat pecinta daging especially sate kambing mungkin ada baiknya mencoba kuliner yg satu ini..! Sate dombanya enak banget rasanya tidak seperti sate biasanya karena dimasak dengan bawang bombay seperti ditumis.. enak sekali, sampai bikin gw ketagihan.. sayangnya jauh bgt dr rmh gw di tambun..
