Historical or heritage places and items in Jakarta do not always come in forms like Museums, Colonial Architecture, in locations like China Town and in object form like statues. Jakarta has several amazing local restaurants that constantly remind us of the root and cultural influences of our much loved Indonesian dishes. Meradelima is one of those outstanding restaurants that preserve the tradition of Indonesian cushiness and does such a remarkable job at it. Located in the prime area of South Jakarta, their startling colonial building is in close vicinity to Government offices such as PLN and police stations and during lunch time, this is the favourite spot.
Expect to find Indonesian, Malay and Chinese food thanks to the influence of the Peranakan era. The interior here is amazing with al fresco dining and a unique layout where if you wish for privacy you can get it and thus it is even perfect for a private party. There is even a lounge area where you can enjoy appetisers like Pangsit Kawin Lari which are prawn and chicken dumplings served in a vinegar sauce. Also you can enjoy their offerings of traditional shaved ice desserts like Es Shanghai.
Aside for its amazing aesthetic value, Meradelima is available for those who want to enjoy one-off quick meals such as Nasi Goreng and Mie Jawa Baru for a lunch break, or have a full on proper dinner with shared dishes such as Gurame 5 Rasa, which is gurame fish deep fried with hot, sweet, sour, salty and Chinese fermented sauce. They also have an exceptionally good array of vegetables dishes as well and especially traditional seafood and chicken dishes.
A must visit restaurant for cultural and culinary experiences alike and whether you take a local or a tourist guest to Meradelima, you know you are onto a winner and will not disappoint. Please book beforehand, for lunch or dinner.
