When you desire a good breakfast before an early Monday morning meeting and when the usual fare of coffee and muffins does not hit the spot for you, then Kopitiam may be what you are looking for.
Kopitiam may be a familiar brand one might recognise, especially for frequent travellers to Singapore and Malaysia, as they are considered one of the best hang out place for breakfast, lunch or some casual ‘coffee talk shop’ .
For breakfast you will find that they have some of the most impressive Asian dishes around. Where else can you find Nasi Lemak, Oxtail Fried Rice, Fried Carrot cake, Singapore Curry chicken, even Toast at 8am in the morning? Mind you, Kotiam chains are all located inside a mall and while the other patrons open doors at 10-11 am, Kopitiam will serve any customer much earlier as most of their dishes are best served for breakfast.
Their Traditional Kaya toast is one good example of a hearty breakfast. Their claim to fame was of course owed due to this toast but now you can enjoy an array of other set ‘Breakfast/Anyday’ menus such as the Gula Malaka toast, Peanut toast and even the French toast. And the best part of it all, is that because they are all part of set menus, you get your choice of coffee or tea, french fries and two soft boiled eggs. We must say, what makes the breakfast are the eggs. You have to carefully peel them and put it in a bowl, drizzle some soy sauce on them and mix it all up. W-O-W!!!!But the ultimate best part of their set menu by far, is the affordable price.
For those who believe the only way to wake up is through a spicy kick, then Singapore laksa is the way to go. The really rich coconut milk in the pool of chilli paste and oil accompanied by the the fantastic chubby noodles, bean spotuts, seafood, tofu and egg is surely fantastic!
For less spicy but sweeter noodles we suggest you go for the Mee Siam. It looks pretty similar to a watery ‘ketoprak’, but actually the slightly sweet gravy and fermented bean sauce is delectable.
Kopitiam offers a good selection of coffee and speciality drinks. One of the favorites is the Avocado coffee. Fresh avocado juice with a generous dollop of coffee flavour ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Simply delicious. Now who says that Breakfast has to be boring?
