I went to this restaurant with 4 of my friends. During the time we were eating, I made a few phone calls. I remembered putting the phone on the tatami cushion after making the calls. Since we were rather hurried at the end of our lunch, I forgot to put my handphone back to my bag.
It was only 10 minutes after we left the restaurant that I realized I did not have my handphone with me. I was about to call my driver. Then, I rushed back to the restaurant. The room had been cleaned-up. When I asked around, the waiters said they did not see my handphone in the room we had lunch at. Using one of my friend's handphone, I called my own number. Strangely, eventhough the handphone battery was still more than 90% full, the phone was already not active.
I knew in that instant that someone had taken the phone and switched it off and I knew it was one of the waiters.
I waited for an hour to talk to the supervisor. It turned out that the supervisor only came once a week (on that day, Saturday) as she also managed few other restaurants in Blok M areas. That means the waiters were not really tightly supervised. The conversation was not useful at all. Eventhough I tried to maintain calm and not using any accusatory tone, the manager was very defensive from the beginning.
From my other friends who worked in the Kyoei Building, I found out that it was not a secret anymore that the waiters there were not honest. He knew many of his colleagues loosing handphones and other valuable things, including a bag that had laptop in it. He said that the waiters there had low fixed salary.
If you have to dine there, please keep this in mind. Please make sure that you really watch your belongings carefully while you're there.
