Editorial Review
Contemporary French cuisine, molecular cocktails, rustic interior, indoor and outdoor seating; just by judging the book by its cover alone, these factors are enough to lure customers over to Colonial restaurant located in Kemang Village. Nevertheless, for those who have actually gone through the entire dining experience here, they will all tell you that it is the food, the cuisine, that really makes this place spectacular.
The menu is carefully crafted into Starters, Specials, Soups, Meats, Fish, Pastas, and includes even Vegetarian and Asian selections. For entrees, their light and fresh selection of salads, Carpaccio, soups and tarts will not leave you disappointed.
Take a careful glance at their Les Viandes aka Meat section of the menu and you have a choice of baby chicken, foie gras, quail, pork belly and the opulent 180 grams of Marble Score 9+ ‘Blackmore’ Wagyu. The range is astonishing and interesting. Don’t miss out on their Pan-seared Onglet beef which comes in a perfect portion for those who want to share this as starters. They insist on serving this flavorful Hanger’s cut medium rare, which is seriously the only way you should have it and it is served with delicious Red Wine sauce.
As for the mains, this is the tricky part. How can you make a bold decision? Overall their dishes have an extremely low possibility of disappointing anyone, but our favorite pick has to be the Pappardelle and Duck Ragout with shaved grainy Grana Padano Italian cheese. Why this simple dish you may ask? Simple answer really as we believe this dish can convert those who religiously hate pasta and or duck in any form or shape. The Pappardelle pasta’s texture is very balanced and perfectly cooked and the savory and succulent duck Ragout is magnificent.
For those who have been to the Colonial several times already, they will understand that the local head chef has managed to create a menu that simply elevates the freshness and flavors of the dishes, which can only mean that his technique is exceptional and more importantly consistent.
On a final note please don't leave this place without sampling their White Chocolate Pannacotta, and on the plus side, they have a really good and reasonable selection of wines as well.
No regrets !
