Editorial Review
For 30 years, the Blue Elephant restaurant has been dubbed the 'Ambassador' of Thai cuisine not only in Indonesia, but also in countries such as London, Dubai, Paris and also most likely in Jeddah which will be opening soon. For Jakartans, it has always been an open secret that if you really are a Thai food aficionado, Blue Elephant or formerly known as Blue Erawan is where you go to seek not only exquisite Thai food but also Thai generosity in terms of courtesy and charm which is indisputably present.
As soon as you walk in, your whole senses are tricked into believing that you are on a lavish holiday in Thailand and the very fine dining vibe on the inside of the restaurant and the garden area outside covered in glass walls, is breathtaking. And when you flip through the menu, your mouth will water. Blue Elephant has one of the most well organized menus that you can think of. Their set menu for lunch called the Business Lunch gives you a choice of dishes from their curry, appetizers, and main dishes that is served around your plate with a bowl of rice in the middle. This dish is not only a bargain but also quite satisfactory because you get to try bits of everything in the menu.
As for their a la carte menu, we recommend you go straight for their Golden Bag which is organic prawns and crab meat cooked in the signature green curry paste wrapped in their crispy pastry. The homemade pineapple sauce that comes along with this will surely kick start your appetite.
However, the best signature dishes at Blue Elephant would have to be their seafood and fish main courses. Their simple yet magnificent fresh lime sea-bass is simply sublime. The ingredients of fresh and organic lemongrass, green limes, garlic, coriander and sprinkled with a generous amount of diced carrots really brings out the flavour.
Another signature dish of Blue Elephant will be the Kra-Praow Chicken which uses fresh wild basil, garlic of course red chillies. This dish will go so well with a bowl of rice or even on its own as a starter. We also think that they cook up some really good Massaman curry with cashew nuts, which is a rare treat in Jakarta!
Blue Elephant identifies themselves as Royal Thai Cuisine and we understand why. Their combination of sticking to the very core and tradition of Thai cooking by flying in the highest quality ingredients from Thailand, their creative and immaculate presentation of the food, and exceptional service from their servers are just a few reasons why. Arguably the Best Thailand Restaurant in Jakarta.
