If you are seeking to eat a bountiful amount of the freshest seafood; with fresh as in you get to pick them live from the aquarium, and bountiful in meaning you have a wide variety, and to have this meal not cost you an arm and a leg and lastly, to enjoy this meal in a setting by the sea, then Bandar Djakarta is the only place that ticks all these boxes.
Bandar Djakarta is the quintessential place where you take your friends who are visiting from abroad, as it is truly a unique experience and there is nothing quite colossal as this place. Their other locations also boast a similar concept either by the seaside or in natural and open settings.
To put into words the vastness of this place, at their branch in Ancol, you have to know their numbers. Their venue can serve 1000 people at the same time, with over 200 tables that fit a minimum of 8 people, 400 staff working daily with walkie talkies running around in their sneakers, 3 major kitchens and half a dozen working docks and registers all over the venue. This restaurant is a colossal force to be reckoned with. On weekends especially for dinner services alone, they probably go through tons of fresh seafood easily.
From their scrumptious choices of dishes, we highly recommend the Jumbo female crab with roe that is available to you fresh. You get to pick which one you want and have cooked in various ways such as Singapore sauce, Oyster sauce, salty eggs sauce, sweet & sour and out ultimate favourite- the fragrant and spicy Black pepper sauce.
We also recommend the tiger clams cooked in their succulent Padang sauce. You will need the help of several toothpicks to pull these suckers out of their shell, but the time and mess are worth it. Also, take advantage to sample the freshness of the live fish such as the local favourite the Baronang/ Rabbitfish and ask them to grill the fish and smother it with their signature Bandar Sauce.
You also have the option just to come to Bandar Djakarta to buy live and fresh seafood to take away and cook at home should you prefer to avoid the crowds. However, as you can guess, you are more than welcome to dine in and a cooking fee service is charged to have them do all the work for you. The choice is up to you.
