Sopra is one place that serves the goodness of Italian home-style cooking in a contemporary manner. Located within the exclusive Pacific Place mall in SCBD, Sopra has been the favourite hangout spot at lunch time for the corporates to wine and dine their clients.
For starters, we recommend the Veal Carpaccio or the light and healthy Caprese of fresh ripe tomatoes and Italian Mozzarella. May we even suggest a cheese platter to go with their extensive choices of white and red wines?
If you feel like a good homemade pasta, the selection at Sopra is pretty good. You can find lamb ragout, ravioli, gnocchi and even an imported pasta selection wherein the ingredients are flown in straight from Napoli. The crab fettuccine in particular is quite appetizing. The whole crab is scooped out of its shell and the shell is used as a garnish to this eye adoring dish. The green fettuccine is then placed neatly inside the crab shell, and is smothered with the fresh homemade tomato sauce which is mixed with the crab meat. To add a bit of a kick to this dish, we recommend that you add a bit of dried chillies instead of tabasco sauce so as not to ruin the subtle and yet flavourful tomato sauce.
Aside from their stylish avant-garde interior of black leather, dark wood and dim light setting, it is their dishes, especially their thin and light pizzas that has been getting people into Sopra.
Behold their premium pizza menu, where you get to taste a real Italian pizza with all the ingredients imported from the birth place of Pizza. There are over 20 varieties to choose from, and you can order them up to the biggest size available, which is a hefty 50 cm diameter.
The pizzas have formidable sounding names such as Deep Ocean, The King, The Queen, Tornado and Sunset and thus give you a slight hint on what to expect. We decided to try The King, which is probably named that due to the toppings of fresh salmon, caviar and mozzarella, ingredients which are indeed 'fit for a King'. The base of this pizza is cream and mozzarella which go deliciously well with the seafood toppings. If The King is the Seafood galore, then The Queen Pizza would have to be the Vegetarian and Cheese galore with fresh cherry tomatoes, ruccola, basil, mozzarella and of course a drizzle of their imported extra virgin olive oil.
So if you are after a taste of authentic Italian food, then do give Sopra a try. It is almost as good as dining in Italy without having to fly there.
