Editorial Review
The Kue Lapis, or Layered Cake has to be one of the most favorite Indonesian desserts of all time, and is also a popular "oleh oleh" item to give to visiting relatives or when you are a visitor yourself, and thus it comes as no surprise that French desserts such as Mille Crepes are making a huge hit in Jakarta. Afterall, they are very similar; the layers make these desserts a very time-consuming creation. Here in Jakarta, one of the most recognized mille crepes has to be the one that is made with local flair by Champs Patisserie. They have labeled themselves as the 'Revolution of Lapis' as their mille crepes are not only delicious but they are uniquely different- embracing the east meet west way.
Case in point, their latest Melaka flavored crepes where the meticulous layers of cream is infused with the Melaka Palm sugar and coconut, which is for sure an originally delicious way to enjoy this dessert. For a slight bitterness, we definitely recommend the UJI Matcha and sweet red beans as a perfect choice. But by far out of their ten flavors, the best seller is definitely the simplicity of the Vanilla mille crepes and it is hands down one of the best in town, as they perfected the recipe down to the tee. In addition, they sell these slices of goodness in very affordable packages as well. You would need to book in advance for the whole cake of mille crepes though.
Champ Patisserie also sell some homemade oatmeal cookies and birthday cakes with colorful marshmallows, which are very popular with children's parties. They are currently located in Central Park Mall, Emporium Mall and Pantai Indah Kapuk. And if you are in these areas, it is definitely worth popping by for a slice or two.
