Editorial Review
Since the 1970's Berkah Rumah Makan has been consistently serving one dish that has created such a loyal following that on the weekends for some people, it is a ritual to eat at the very modest establishment located right next to the Ratu Prabu 1 building along the TB Simatupang road. This one dish is their Sop Daging (meat soup) which has single handedly kept their business buzzing for decades. It is a simple dish consisting of clear soup with tender chunks of meat, but it is so tasty and so popular that it still gets people fighting for seats on the weekdays.
The key to their amazing soup will have to be the broth which gives the soup the ultimate satisfaction, probably because the meat has been cooking for at least 6 hours before it is served to the customers. The squeeze of fresh lime into the warm savoury soup together with the sprinkles of chopped spring onions will get get you addicted to this meat soup from the first slurp. As you look around people are just focused on eating and savouring each bite of their meal that it seems for the next 20 minutes while they are enjoying their soup, nothing else seems to matter.
Another great thing about this place is the way they serve their dish, simple and clean. The soup is accompanied by a bowl of rice, tempe goreng and also home made perkedel. When you come to the restaurant before the lunch rush, usually two ladies with plastic gloves will be carefully shaping the round perkedels and carefully stacking them.
As for desserts, they only have the dodol or their famous kue bugis. But their desserts are really famous for disapearing off the trays by lunchtime.
Other than meat soup you can try their equally delicious Ayam Goreng and also Pepes Ikan mas. This place is truly a legend! Despite the glitzy, modern and trendy restaurants that keep popping up on Jakarta's dining scene, sometimes people prefer the simple things in life at times.
