As a multi-ethnic city, where many immigrants from all over Indonesia live there, Batam has many different foods from all over Indonesia regions. Soto Medan is one of the most well-known and recommended food in Batam. The original Soto Medan's stall is located near Nagoya Hill Mall and on the same row as Nagoya Post Office. It has been operated long time ago, at that time even Nagoya Hill Mall hasn't been built yet and the surrounding area was still a truly hill with many trees. The popularity of this Soto Medan stall can be seen clearly during lunchtime, when their loyal customers are flooding to this simple and humble stall, even willing to park their cars on the roadside.

By demand of their loyal customers, Soto Medan opens in 3 different areas across Batam, Nagoya is the first and origin, Batam Centre (near Mesjid Raya/The Grand Mosque) is the second, and the last but not least is on Penuin area. The success of the owner to popularize this cuisine has inspired many people to run the same business. But so far, none can imitate or even close to the taste of this delicious Soto Medan.

Soto Medan itself actually the cuisine's name, which originated come from Medan (capital city of North Sumatra). It's like a soup, but has a murky and yellowish gravy which come from thick coconut milk, blend well with the right portion of saffron and other Indonesian herbs, fill with chicken, beef tripe, beef lungs, also traditional potato croquet. Don't worry, you can choose the meat combination as you prefer but we do recommend to try the complete one. Not like the original soup which contains some vegetables, Soto Medan has no vegetables at all. When is presented in front of you, the steam that comes out from the hot gravy makes you no longer can hold yourself to taste it, and when it has passed your tongue, you can taste the distinctive and deliciousness of this Soto Medan like no other you’ve ever tasted.

When it comes to the price section, surprisingly with less than Rp.20.000,-, you can have a full bowl of mouthwatering Soto Medan, served hot in orange melamine bowl plus a plate of white rice accompanied by green chili condiment. A good food with a good price, surely a satisfying culinary experience! For a more fresh and sour taste, you can add a bit of lemon. For the side dish, try their melinjo chips, but be careful for those who have high cholesterol or uric acid, melinjo can make your cholesterol and uric acid go higher.

For a balance finish off, you can order their fresh, made by order, real fruit juices (no extract juice added), such us Sour sop Juice, Orange Juice, Tomato Juice, and others.

So, whenever you come to Batam, don't miss to come to this very well known Soto Medan stall to have a culinary experience you'll never regret!
