Ulasan Editorial

When entertaining big families, and hosting events and company outings, size does matter when accommodating larger numbers. Well size is surely not a problem at Talaga Sampireun wherein their restaurant is situated on a vast plot of land and employs around 50 or so staff. And I am only talking about the floor staff. If you think that restaurants operating on a large scale encounter more 'disasters' than normal, well certainly this does not happen here at Talaga Sampireun where their queuing, serving and floor systems are as organised and modern as they come.

Talaga Sampireun serves traditional Sundanese food in an ambience that is not only original and vast but also almost Zen like. This is mainly because every customer gets their own hut outdoors or with an air conditioner and the table arrangements are around a man made lake so you can enjoy their delicious cuisine accompanied by the sound of the water and also traditional music.

Overall, a very good selection of seafood is served; from fresh prawn, carp, crab and of course squid. Their fresh river prawn dish is amazing, The Udang Galah Kental Kentoel is a sensational dish smothered in their house speciality 'Sambal Merem Melek'. This sambal is a burst of pungent flavours thanks to the special spicy chilli sauce. Another seafood dish which also comes highly recommended is the Udang Windu Talaga Sampireun which is a tiger prawn dish served in a special hot clay pot and is accompanied with the burst of sweet and spicy flavours of Tamarind, coriander shallots and of course chilli.

For you river fish and especially 'gurame' lovers, we recommend you try their variety of deep fried gurame served in many ways with Acar Kuning, Bumbu Mangga, and Bumbu Coke.

For crab lovers we recommend their Kepiting Asap, which is a steamed crab wrapped in banana leaves then charbroiled. The traditional herbs are retained by the tightly wrapped banana leaves.

There are also a lot of meat and poultry dishes such as Sop Buntut, Pepes Tahu Teri and Ayam Goreng sprinkled with fried coconut crumble. Fresh and steamed vegetables are also available.

To end your day at the Talaga Sampireun, you must save some room for dessert, and for this we recommend the Tape goreng or the Pisang baker.

A perfect venue of family and company events and by far one of the best services in town. We should warn you that on the weekends and public holidays there is a minimum charge of Rp.500,000 for the private air-conditoned huts.
