Ulasan Editorial

For those of you who have familiarized yourselves with the spices of Indonesia, you will know that chili is a main ingredient in most of the flaming dishes that leave some running for the tap to put out the flames. Dabu - Dabu specializing in Menadonese food which is also well known to be a fire starter is one place where you may find yourself doing the same.

The color red in many of their dishes may be a warning for some to stay away, but many choose to continue as the burning sensation that is induced by chili is delightful and even pleasurable they say. Well if you are one of them, this place is perfect. We begin with the main course specials, Cakalang Rica- rica with hot and spicy red chili, Salmon Sour Broth (Kuah Asam Salmon), also hot and spicy and lastly Rib Soup Doeloe-Doeloe (Sup Iga Doeloe-Doeloe). It is accustomed to eat these dishes with rice, though we do recommend to try the dishes alone before mixing with rice to fully appreciate the flavors. For Dessert a specialty at Dabu - Dabu is Kleppertert, essentially milk, egg, maizena flour and slices of coconut meat. Very delicious! If you haven't cooled off after that, than perhaps some ice tea will help, and if that doesn't work, you may actually need the tap.

The name Dabu - Dabu is adapted from a spicy paste which is essentially a blend of red chili and tomato, from the island of Sulawesi. The name tells you what you are in-store for, but this place is no doubt worth a try for its culinary goodness, more than it is a 'fiery torture'.
