Some of the 'national' Indonesian dishes that most people are familiar with usually stems from Javanese or Sumatra food. Until and unless you have visited all the 31 provinces in Indonesia and experienced first hand what the local dishes are like, most of us will not know what is available. At Warung Rawit their focus is to provide the best of West Borneo/Kalimantan and also the East Java foods.

These regions are known to cook up unique dishes that represent their local culture and history. One of these dishes is in their Seafood and fish menu. Gurame is served in a variety of sauces, where you can have them the way the West Borneo people have them (with Asam pedas or Asam manis) or if you prefer hot and spicy, you can have them drizzled in delicious yellow pickle sauce with whole chillies. Our favorite would have to be though the classic deep fried version Gurame with the classic twist of fresh sprinkle of the zesty Pomelo on top that works all the time with deep fried dishes.

For East Javanese dishes, you can find Pecel dishes and also one of their most sought after signature beef rib dishes known as the Iga Penyet. The deep fried, tender and very slightly flavorful meat served on the traditional rock plate (mortar and pestle) is a given with any Iga Penyet dishes served anywhere in Jakarta. But the house recipe with sambal terasi that comes with this dish is what makes this dish special and unique and Warung Rawit will definitely be high up their on your top Iga Penyet restaurants, we guarantee you!

If you are from Singkawang, the city of 1000 temples, the Gulai Keong Nenek Singkawang will probably the first dish you will order as starters and also for sure, the Sayur Pakis. This is in our opinion a rare treat as it is a staple dish not only because its texture is amazing but also because it is so readily available in the jungle and forest of Borneo. And if you thought that there was no alternative dish to represent the famous Kangkung tumis, Sayur Pakis will change your mind.

For desserts we recommend the Es Campur that comes in a fresh coconut shell and also the famous oranges of Pontianak. Or possibly go for the sour and pungent Kedongdong juice that is perfect to subside heavy and spicy foods.

Warung Rawit is usually crowded with people who just cannot get enough of their authentic and traditional variety of dishes. To be exact there are 40 dishes in Warung Rawit that you just want try all at once. But don't worry about having to wait long for a table, their swift and friendly service and of course the superb dishes are worth the wait!
