Upscale Indonesian fine dining is popping up in every corner in Jakarta now. Labeling itself as an Imperial Indonesian cuisine, Lara Djonggrang's decor and environment has people talking all over Jakarta about how unique, historical, mystical and even romantic the place is. Dominated by rich red paints, dim light and exotic traditional sculptures and paintings their theme is based on the legendary princess Lara Djonggrang who is the inspiration behind the Sewu Temple in Jogjakarta today. It's almost like a mini historical museum where one can transcend back into time. No wonder it appeals to expats and also for locals who are in need of some chic historical decadence in their dining. There are several private rooms available that represents some historical backgrounds such as, Soekarno Hatta room which is dominated with red and white color as Indonesia flag, Lara Djonggrang room which decorated with dim lights and dark nuanced, Chinese room that is dominated with red dragon ornaments surrounding the wall and Afghanistan room where it is located inside La Bihzad bar area. Simple hawker and traditional food such as Gado-gado served in a big unique bowl, Sate Lilit Ikan that is originally adapted from Balinese cuisine, Ayam Bakar, and Otak- otak Ikan Asam Pedas is glorified into fine dining at this establishment. Definitely a must visit establishment for tourists and also a unique experiential dining for the locals.
