Bistro Batu Kali is the latest in place on eat street. New places are once again opening on Jln. Laksamana, Kerobokan, perhaps the conversion to boutiques and real estate has finished?
This one is a sure winner, at this stage only open for dinner from 5.00 p.m., daily. When a chef/ manager has previously successfully opened two Bali restaurant (Rumours and Boardwalk) for different owners, and then they do it for themselves, it is very likely to work.
The secret is simple, interesting but simple food with high quality butt very budget priced! Grilled Baby Chicken, Beef Tenderloin stuffed with peppers, onions and feta, Braised Lamb Shank, Chicken Breast stuffed with mushrooms and ricotta. Wonderful Beef and Vegetable Pies, served in a bowl encrusted with pastry and that English classic, Beef Wellington (fillet steak topped with pate and wrapped in puff pastry before being baked in the oven).
Whilst the standard menu prices are amazingly low, further great value is available from daily blackboard 3 course special menus. The restaurant is open to the street, separate from it by a boardwalk terrace, from where you can watch the world go by.
