A lot of Chinese restaurants today opt for a minimalistic design rather than the traditional decor of authentic Chinese restaurants back in the day. The Jun Njian Restaurant adopts a very simple concept of table sets and chairs arranged close to one another to give an intimate dining experience for families or friends. Its interior is simple and dominated by the color red to accent the cream colored marble flooring which make the red lanterns engraved with Chinese calligraphy stand out.
They serve a variety of dishes ranging from typical Chinese dishes to less traditional ones such as Udang Mayonaise (Fried Shrimp coated with mayonaise) or Cumi Goreng Jun-Njan (Jun- Njan Fried Cuttlefish). We start off with some Sapo Tahu Seafood (Braised soft tofu with seafood) served in claypot. This dish is very common and absolutely a must to try for its exquisite Asian taste and scrumptious contents. Next came the Ikan Gurame Goreng Asam Manis (Deep Fried Carp with sweet and sour sauce) uniquely prepared with with carrot and yam bean shreds, another favored delicacy at Chinese restaurants. We followed up with their special, Cumi Goreng JN (fried cuttlefish) with Jun Njan sauce. Jun Njian prefers to fry it the cuttlefish in sauce rather than flour, giving it a rather salty taste but uniquely appetizing. To finish up we went for some Chinese tea which is said to neutralize all the oil in the food. Well we hope for our sakes that it did the job.
The must try:
udang rebus (boiled baby shrimp), cumi goreng mentega (squid), mie goreng (fried noodle), ayam rebus (steamed chicken), sup asparagus (asparagus soup). There are many others and most of them are delicous. Yummy!!
