If you would say that you are quite selective about your Japanese foods, specifically in the Sukiyaki and Shabu-shabu dishes, Aoki would be the one place that you must visit in Jakarta. This particular restaurant has been one of the most successful brands attached to the Gran Mahakam Hotel, and provides an amazing array of house signature dishes as well. This place is also visited quite frequently for ‘power lunch’ meetings as it caters to a more genteel crowd.
For starters, we recommend you take a look at their Sushi selections and try the delicious Sake Yaki Maki, which is rolled crab meat in a soy wrap with a thin slice of salmon and avocado on top of slightly torched rice. The rice they use for this roll almost feels like a glutinous type of rice and the torched sides reminds you of the Indonesian traditional snack called ‘Lemper’. The sweet reduction sauce on top of the avocado accentuates the flavours really well. When it comes to their mains, and if you can afford to blow the budget, we definitely recommend the Kobe Sirloin. The Shabu-shabu broth and vegetables are served in Kami Nabe paper; which a great way to cook as it skims off any lye and bitter taste in the soup. Their raw vegetables and tofu that comes on the sides are really fresh, but the most amazing part is definitely the quality of their meat.
For those craving for the Bento-type of meals, we recommend their house speciality, which is the Dry Sukiyaki Bento. This set menu is simply delicious, especially the Shirataki noodles and scrambled eggs that have soaked in all the beautiful sweet soy sauce, and is served with white rice and Sirloin beef.
It should be noted that Aoki is also a great place for a small and private events as they have several rooms to cater for this need.
Serious satisfaction for serious Japanese food lovers!
