Turkish restaurants are a rare treat in Jakarta, let alone in Indonesia. So when one pops up in town, it is with great eagerness and anticipation by the food-loving public to sample dishes from one of the most diverse and healthy cuisines in the world. It seems that with Turkish food, you will see a colourful melody of vegetables, generous amount of healthy olive oil and of course slow cooked tender meat.
Turkuaz is located on the main street of Gunawarman, and is a charming place with a very inviting feel. As you enter, you will see that one side of the wall is covered with black and white photos of the historic landmarks of Turkey while the rest of the venue is decorated a cool blue theme.
Ever since they opened, everybody has been raving about their appetisers, due to their presentation and original taste, take their sampler Mezelar platter for example. This platter consists of Hummus, Babaganoush and Ispanakli Peynirili Borek, which by many deem as one of the most favourite and sought after starters of Turkish food. Most of the appetisers at Turkuaz are all vegetarian, another which you must try is the Suzme Mercmek Corbasi, which is a creamy red lentil soup with butter dried chili dressing and is a great way to start your meal. Another great thing about the appetisers at Turkuaz is that you get to eat their freshly baked wood oven breads that are available everyday such as sesame bread, soft thin bread or even puffy bread.
For those of you who are not vegetarian, when you think of Turkish food, of course Kebabs will come to mind. Well you are in luck, as all their kebabs and koftes are fresh and, the meat is grilled upright on rotating machine and shaved into thin slices. Their chefs signature dishes are lamb shank dishes, wherein the lamb has been baked overnight in a wood oven which makes the meat very tender and juicy. But just a gentle reminder that at Turkuaz they do not serve any alcohol except for beer, so you will have to skip any wines for later.
To end your meal do not forget to grab some of the yummy pistachio candy, also their Turkish delights are also available as gift boxes to take home and enjoy later.
Although it is pricey, the food is worth to dine for. Don't forget to order the Baklava and Turkish tea for dessert to end your meal.
After that, you can shop for gorgeous handmade rugs, plates, tea sets, etc. Alternatively, just looking at these beautiful products will be a delight!
